Jeannine Gmelin: "Fighting for the Olympics"
A film by Heidi Schmid and Christian Labhart (July 2021, 53 min.)
During my intensive preparations for the Olympic Games in Tokyo - which were then postponed by a year due to the coronavirus pandemic - I was accompanied by a camera team. This film gives an in-depth look behind the scenes of my life as a top athlete. My everyday life no longer revolves around training sessions, but the values that sustained me back then have remained. They are still my compass. What makes this film a priceless gift is that it also shows an extraordinary person: Robin Dowell. My coach, a mentor, my best friend. Even though he is no longer here, a part of him remains alive through this film - his energy, his words, his tireless belief in me and in all those he accompanied.

I humbly and gratefully remember this chapter of my life - with all its highs, lows and the people who shaped it.

"I am a passenger in the grieving process for Robin"
Anita Richner in conversation with Jeannine Gmelin (June 26, 2023, mp3, , 58 min.)
She is the exceptional talent of Swiss women's rowing: Jeannine Gmelin became world champion in the single sculls in 2017, and the whole world assumed that she would crown her successful career with an Olympic medal in Paris in 2024. But things turned out very differently.

Shortly before Christmas 2022, her coach and life partner Robin Dowell died unexpectedly during a training ride. The accident not only plunged Gmelin into a deep grieving process. It also confronted her with the question of how she should continue as a professional athlete. The decision was made relatively quickly: she announced her retirement in January. In "Focus", Jeannine Gmelin talks about the past six months and what it means to reinvent herself as an athlete.
