KIBAG - this white anchor on a blue background - has been with me since May 2019. It is possible that this partnership would never have come about if Alex Wassmer, the president and majority shareholder of the construction giant, had not been waiting for his departure at Kloten airport on that 1 February 2019 and read the headline in the NZZ. Alex heard about my separation from the rowing association at the time and offered me his help - even before his departure.

He and KIBAG were the saving anchor when my ship was in danger of sinking. The support, which was vital for my private team's survival, has remained to this day what I call a "down to earth approach" and - although KIBAG is a huge company - gives me a feeling of absolute familiarity and the security that our relationship will weather any storm. Because it came into being for a good reason and is built on good ground. This can also be felt at our annual partner events at KIBAG on the lake in Wollishofen; or when the boss once again writes a motivational text message before midnight in a very uncomplicated way.

Like Goethe once

"Of all the places I know, it is the dearest and most interesting to me," Johann Wolfgang Goethe once said about Andermatt. Since entering into a partnership with the Radisson Blu Hotel in Andermatt in 2021, I can relate to Goethe's view. Mountains, rocks, wind and water form a unique natural backdrop outside the hotel's doors. The people here are correspondingly: grounded, close to nature. That suits me. In addition, the Radisson Blu offers me comfortable conditions for recovery when hard endurance training on the cross-country track, on the mountain, in the weight room or on the ergometer pushes me to the limits. In addition, I can use the infrastructure of the FOSPO (Federal Office of Sport) in Andermatt, which is suitable for top sports. This combination of perfect conditions for training and regeneration with the homely feeling of well-being at the Radisson Blu makes Andermatt so valuable for me.

2024 in focus

2024 is equally a milestone for Leuag and Jeannine Gmelin. This year we can celebrate the 40th anniversary of our company, and look back on many years of successful business. In the same year, another highlight in Jeannine Gmelin's career awaits her: participation in the Summer Olympics in Paris with the goal of winning a medal.

The same applies to Leuag as to Jeannine: Success is based on professional work that involves dedication, a lot of hard work, but also a lot of joy. We are looking forward to our partnership with Jeannine and to accompanying her on her way.

A rope team

I find the meeting of two completely different worlds, which at first glance seem to have little in common, but on closer inspection show many parallels, exciting. For me, the central element in partnerships is sharing similar values. I immediately saw these at Leuag - especially in the symbol of the rope team, which for me is also an essential element in what I do - whether in the various components such as technique, strength, endurance or mental strength that I need as an athlete, or the interaction of all team members.
